Live Oak has an excellent school district that holds three elementary schools (Del Mar, Green Acres and Live Oak), as well as Shoreline Middle School and Harbor High School. In addition, there are a number of colleges within a 40-mile radius, including UC Santa Cruz , UC Monterey Bay, Cabrillo College, and San Jose State University. Economy & Job Market Live Oak is primarily a residential community and its residents generally work elsewhere outside the area. Attractions & Points of Interest The main areas of interest in Live Oak are the beaches and the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. Pleasure Point is a well-known surfing spot which attracts surfers from near and far, and biking along the coast is popular. On Wednesday evenings there are sailboat races. A few miles away there are many opportunities for hiking among the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Nearby towns and cities such as Monterey, San Jose and San Francisco also feature many fun attractions, cultural venues and recreational opportunities. And since Live Oak is only three miles away from Santa Cruz, many residents can easily make the quick drive or bike ride to this eclectic beach city for some seaside fun. Popular attractions in Santa Cruz include Pacific Avenue, West Cliff Drive, The Art Museum , the Boardwalk, and the University of California. |
